I was inspired to make this painting from reading The Danish Girl by David Ebershoff. In the book, two artists paint on the top floor of a building under skylights. When I read novels, I envision the unique layout of the home interiors, and follow the characters from room to room. I wanted to portray the peaceful mood of sunlight through skylights, but I also wanted more contrast, so I also thought of the roof pattern of greenhouses as well. I wanted to evoke a stillness and intensity that spans across time and place.
